Fionnuala
Murphy BSc (Hons) Ost
|
 |
Fionnuala
was born and brought up in Dublin. She took her first degree
in Physiology, followed by a Higher Diploma in Education at Trinity
College Dublin. In 1984, she moved over to the UK to begin studying
for a PhD in Visual Neuroscience at Keele University. Following that
she came to Liverpool to work for Royal Insurance in IT, but after several
years decided to make a career change. She studied at the British School
of Osteopathy in London, qualified in 2002, and has worked full-time
in osteopathic practices on Merseyside since then. A few years ago she
opened her own practice in the Fulwood area of Liverpool.
Fionnuala has always been fascinated with how the body works ever since
her first biology lesson at school. She says that she might have become
an osteopath sooner, but that when she left school she didn’t know what
osteopathy was! During her Physiology degree she became especially interested
in the musculoskeletal system and how people move, so that many years
later, while she was working in IT and began looking for a change in
direction, she knew it had to be something which would take her back
to her original fascination with the human body and movement.
In her approach to osteopathy, Fionnuala places a lot of emphasis on
finding ways you can help yourself by enhancing your body awareness.
This may involve becoming more aware of your posture, maybe changing
how you do some things and maybe some form of exercise, if this suits
you. Her aim is to help you get back on your feet as soon as possible.
This means endeavouring to resolve the underlying causes of your symptoms,
giving you a better understanding of the reasons behind the problem
and therefore helping you to avoid or minimise recurrences.
