How can Herbal Medicine Help?
|
Herbal
medicine is the oldest known form of medicine, it has been used since
the earliest times to treat illness and restore good health.
Medical
Herbalists are trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors,
but take a more holistic approach to illness. Herbal medicine aims to
treat the whole person – so encouraging the body to heal itself.
The underlying cause of the problem is sought and treated, and the plant
remedies help to restore balance to the body. Herbal Medicine aims to
treat the person, not just the disease.

The Herbal Medicine Experience
|
The first
consultation normally lasts about an hour, when a complete medical history
is taken. You will be asked questions about your general health, previous
medical history, diet, lifestyle and any medication that you are taking;
it is very important that you bring full details of all current medication
to your first appointment. You will also have your pulse and blood pressure
taken, and, if necessary, a physical examination will be carried out.
|
At the end of the consultation, a herbal medicine prescription will
be made, specially tailored to your needs. It will usually take the
form of a liquid alcoholic tincture, you will be given specific instructions
on how to take this, for example, 5-10ml in some water, twice a day.
Your treatment plan may also include external preparations such as creams
and lotions. You will also be given some advice on diet and lifestyle
if appropriate.
|
A follow
up visit will usually be necessary two weeks later, when any changes
to your condition will be discussed and your prescription of herbs adjusted
accordingly, subsequent visits will probably be necessary three or four
weeks later.
|
Conditions
that respond well to herbal medicine include:
|
Anxiety,
depression, stress, insomnia; headaches and migraines; heart and circulatory
problems; respiratory conditions; digestive disorders and allergies;
gynaecological concerns; skin problems; muscular / joint problems; infections
/ viral conditions; urinary conditions; low energy / low immunity.
Herbal
medicine gets to the core of the problem as well as providing freedom
from symptoms.
